It Finally Happened! The New York Botanical Garden!
I can't tell you how much I've wanted to visit the New York Botanical Garden since moving to New York City. For years, I've been trying to go and something always comes up or I'm not prepared and blah blah blah.... Yes, something always comes up or I'm not prepared to visit. Mostly the latter.
Let me get you some stats from my visit... It will tell you a lot about the NYBG...
* 6.5 hours. How long it took me to see all of the Garden. Not including lunch.
* 9.6 miles. According to my FitBit, that's how much I walked to see everything.
My photo walks are pretty long. Miles. Hours. But can YOU do it? I seriously don't believe most people who go to the NYBG will see the majority of it. Probably a fraction.
Me, I went to town!
The entrance to the Gardens is quite unassuming. It's not your typical New York City grandeur or over-the-top style. It's just incredibly understated and elegant. What I think New York City has the reputation for but in reality, isn't. Which makes the Gardens quite different and refreshing.
It doesn't take long to start feeling how large the Garden is. There is so much space in the Garden. Which is another conflict with the denseness of New York City. Possibly, I think the designers of the Garden is from outside New York City. More with counties outside the City. Because there's lots of space outside of NYC. Go to Westchester County. Go even further north. There is plenty of space. And natural beauty.
There is so much diversity in the Garden. To really properly organize all these photos would take a blog article that I really can't create. It would be huge. I'll just say, the organized gardens. There is an enormous forrest area with a river running through it.
The arboretum is so damn beautiful. And huge. Pictures just don't do it just. I just loved the open area outside.
I completely didn't know.. But it's so obvious.. An area for children! I was quite surprised. Beautiful and lovely. There are even buildings where children can get taught and work on things. Brilliant!
Another Visit. And More.
I can really spend hours in just certain areas throughout the garden. I saw another photographer at the arboretum taking pics of the fish inside the pool. I'm sure he was going to spend several hours there.
I've been to about half a dozen Botanical Gardens on the West and East coasts. San Francisco is the standard for which I judge others. The way it's laid out and the different sections of the park. The NYBG is all of that but literally, 5x larger.
$40 to enter. Completely worth it.
